He continued to rise on the ladder and advanced in his career as a driver and eventually he became a Formula One driver for McLaren, in the 2007 season. His debut in Formula One came around twelve years after he first met with Dennis Ron in 1995. Lewis Hamilton is of mixed race, with a white mother and a black father, so many people consider him the first driver of black origins to be part of Formula One.
In 2007, during his first year in F1, Lewis Hamilton broke many records and even managed to finish on the second place during the championship, the first place being taken by Kimi Raikkonen. In 2008, he managed to finish in the first place, with Felipe Massa being in second place. He declared that he intends to remain as part of the McLaren team during his entire Formula One career.
He first started loving racing with the help of cars that were radio controlled, finishing on the second place in the BRCA championship in 1992.
